| To whom it may concern: I am writing this letter of recommendation for Joshua Shainin, a current senior here at Sandia Preparatory School. I have known Josh for four years and consider him to be one of the finest mathematics students I have ever taught. As a freshman in Algebra 1 it was immediately clear that Josh was head and shoulders above the rest of his class in terms of reasoning skills, mathematical ability, and self-motivation. He was an "A" student the entire year and received the "Algebra 1 Student of the Year" award. Later as a junior Josh was enrolled in my Precalculus class and again showed his talent for mathematics. He maintained a solid "A" average throughout the year and against stiff competition garnered the title of "Precalculus Student of the Year Award". He is now enrolled in Calculus and doing wonderfully. In addition to being Josh's mathematics instructor last year I was also his junior advisor. I was responsible for tracking his performance academically and to be his primary contact should he experience any problems either academically or socially. Because of this Josh and I became good friends and spent a great deal of time just talking to each other. We still frequently play golf together and I am always impressed with his maturity level. I will miss Josh. He is truly an exceptional young man with a vast amount of talent. I look forward to hearing of his accomplishments and know he will excel at the college level. Should you require any additional information please do not hesitate to contact me either at work (505-344-1671) or at home (505-299-0325). Sincerely, David J.
