ACC Practice Green V1.0

Course Documentation

Thanks for your interest in the ACC Practice Green challenge course!  Nine holes of putting terror.  Nine holes of pitching madness.  18 holes that will improve your short game, or at least drive you to frustration.

Course Description:  This course is based around the putting green at the Albuquerque Country Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico (for more info, click here).

ACC Practice Green Summary:

Holes 1-9 are holes with first shots starting on the green (you might want to chip some of these first shots, even though they are on the green to start with); Holes 10-18 are all holes with first shots starting off of the green.

Hole 1:    Hit the ball HARD -- this is a severe uphill slope.

Hole 4:    If you get inside 15 feet with your first putt, you've done well.  This is the most "unfair" hole on the course, but its beauty comes in the options it forces you to consider.  You can putt it short, leaving you a 20-30 foot 2nd putt uphill; you can putt it long, leaving you a 2-4 yard bump-n-run; you can hit a high pitch, hoping it lands high of the pin and stops 10-15 feet below the hole; and there are probably many more options I haven't even thought of yet.  Par here is really good -- consider par here a birdie.

Hole 9:    One mother of a putt.  Don't leave your first putt/chip short -- if you hit the ball past the hole with your first shot, par is a real possibility; otherwise, your second shot will be treacherous.

Hole 18:    Longest hole on the course.  Just like hole 9, hole 18 is a long, slick, scary, intimidating,... hole to end the set of 9 holes.  Just like hole 9, be certain to hit your first shot past the pin to have any realistic shot at par.

Conclusion:

The ACC Practice Green challenge course serves many purposes.  Play a couple holes to fine-tune your short game before your real round of virtual golf; play the whole course to test a wide variety of short game shots; or skip around, playing only the holes you want, testing the shots you want to practice.  At the Albuquerque Country Club, because the course is short, even from the back tees, it is a good idea to perfect your short game before playing, as you should have a lot of putts for birdies and short shots around the tricky greens which defend the pins.  If you can perfect your short game on the ACC Practice Green, you should be ready to make birdies and save pars all day; otherwise, it could be a frustrating round of golf at the Albuquerque Country Club.
