Shainin Dunes V1.2

Course Documentation

Thanks for your interest in Shainin Dunes! I hope you enjoy this course as much as I do. This course is unique, unlike anything else. If you have any comments to make about the course, I would like to hear them, so please email me. This document describes the course and gives tips for playing the course.

Course Description: Imagine playing golf in the Sahara Desert with some patches of fairway and 18 greens, and you've got Shainin Dunes. Some of the holes should produce birdies, while others require precision shots just for par. If you don't have a sand wedge in your bag, you better get one soon, or you may not escape from Shainin Dunes.

Tips For Playing Well On Shainin Dunes:

1. Sand Play: Simply put, if you can't play well from the sand, you either need to learn to play sand shots, or play a different course, becuase you WILL have to hit from the sand during your round, possibly on every hole. Even if you avoid the sand for much of the round, the greens will test your skill. Definitely take advantage of the easy holes, and on the hard holes, treat par as a birdie and bogey as a par.

2. Distance vs. Accuracy: If you have complete control over your swing, you can try to hit the small fairways to give you more control on your approach shot. However, on some holes, the fairways are so small, that sometimes the better play is to simply hit the ball as far as you can and land it in the sand. In that instance, at least you have a shorter sand shot than you would have if you had tried to hit the small fairways and missed.

3. No Erratic Scoring: Shainin Fairways is a course where some holes can produce everything from eagle to triple bogey or worse. Shainin Dunes is much less erratic; most holes require excellent shots to get birdie, but it is tough to get worse than bogey. Obviously, if your sand game isn't "up to par", you can get high scores, but if you have a good sand game, par is a pretty common score.

Shainin Fairways and Shainin Dunes are very different, but have one thing in common: They are both difficult courses with some easy birdie opportunities, and some tough par holes. Don't get behind early, but if you do and can keep your focus, there are holes that can get you back in the match. Shainin Dunes is not a nice looking course (it is very bare). However, it is a unique course with a unique challenge, that is a nice change from Shainin Fairways. Combined, both courses test a wide range of skills. Enjoy!
