Problem:
From Jason(a.k.a. Testdrive) (GolfP3@aol.com)
I have downloaded putt
putt 10 times. I finally got it to download right but does not show on courses
list when I run game. I ran it from internet and unzipped it as
follows. C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\Tiger Woods PGA 2001\Data\Courses\Shainin
Putt Putt.viv
After installing it like this I finally got it to proper folder, instead of
making a new program folder. However when I run tiger woods 2001 it does not
show Shainin Putt Putt on course list. What am I doing wrong? This has really
gotten me fired up. Downloading Patch for game was simple, but having this
much headache downloading a course is unreal. I am losing valuable time on my
ladder trying to download courses that others have downloaded for a varity of
cases tournys please help. I to would like a little more varity to my tiger
woods 2001. Thanks Testdrive (Jason).
Response:
Yeah, I know how frustrating it can be getting
these courses to work sometimes. I've gotten tons of emails over the years,
dealing with all sorts of downloading problems. If the following suggestions
don't work, I'll try downloading Putt Putt from my web site, to make sure it's
not corrupt, but just some things to check are:
- Make sure all files located inside the
zip/exe file you downloaded install to a directory named "Shainin Putt Putt",
which is located inside <TW_DIRECTORY>/Data/Courses/. (You mentioned the name
of the .viv file is "Shainin Putt Putt" -- the name of the directory has to
match the name of the .viv file for the course to work properly)
- Are there 49 files in the "Shainin Putt
Putt" directory. (If not, there may be some files missing, creating this
problem)
- Sometimes (actually, for me, most of the
time), new courses I've downloaded appear near the bottom of the list of
courses (the list isn't in alphabetical order for me, so check at the very
bottom or near the bottom for "Shainin Putt Putt")
- If you didn't download Shainin Putt Putt
from my web site (www.JoshShainin.com),
I can't help you any further than to tell you to try downloading Shainin Putt
Putt (and all of my courses) from my web site. Some of my courses are only
available from my web site, and for all of my courses, I've tried to test
them thoroughly, and last time I've tested all of them, they've downloaded
perfectly. Occasionally, my files get corrupted, for unknown reasons, and if
that's the case, I'll just upload my course files again on the internet, test
them, make sure they download correctly, then notify you.
- If you don't use a downloading program, I
highly recommend you do so. A free one, which Notapro led me to and works
like a charm, is Download Accelerator Plus. A link to it is located on my
main Tiger Woods page of my web site.
These things are at least some things to check, to
make sure everything is set up correctly. If you are still having problems,
please email me again, and I'll try to think of some more things to try. Good
luck, and have fun with Shainin Putt Putt and your tourneys!

Problem:
From Paul (PWAYMONT@aol.com)
Josh
How can I download this course.
The web page is saying the file concerned isnt there.
Please help.
Regards
Paul.
Response:
I tried downloading the first 100K of Naish, and everything
seemed to be working fine. If your problem is occurring deep in the download,
then I'll try downloading the whole file. However, it seems like you are
having problems simply starting the download. Sometimes, when a lot of people
download Naish and Executive in a short period of time, Tripod will shut down
my downloads for awhile (hopefully not more than a day). I put these warnings
on the Naishoubanashi Kusabana and Shainin Executive pages, because this isn't
the first time I've gotten emails from people having problems downloading these
courses. Again, I just tried the download, and it seems as if Tripod has
my downloads working again. If you still experience this problem, I'll check
into it. One program I use to assist in downloading is Download Accelerator
Plus. If your download gets interrupted (such as if Tripod shuts you down
in the middle of a download), you can resume the download from the point you got
interrupted, instead of having to download the file from the start again.
I'll put a link to download DAP (when I find the link to the DAP web site) on
my main Tiger Woods page, because it is free, and is a very useful tool for downloading
large Tiger Woods files. Putting all this aside, glad you like my courses
-- I love that kind of user feedback. I only wish EA paid us for designing
courses. Maybe they'll have another course design contest in the future.
I have been short on time lately, but will try to get my ACC Practice Green "course"
out soon, by this weekend. It is based on the putting green located at the
Albuquerque Country Club. Not really a course, but should challenge people's
short games. Will try to get another full scale course out during the summer,
when school finally finishes. OK, well, good luck with Naish, and talk to
you later.

Problem:
From Johnny (Smith2some@aol.com)
I am fairly new to Tiger Woods EA Sports
golf. I've downloaded a few
courses, but I am looking for Augusta. I saw it on your course list, but
it's not downloadable from there. Do you know where I can get it?
I would sure appreciate it!
Johnny
Response:
You should be able to find several versions
of Augusta at Notapro's Course Downloads (which should be located on my main Tiger
Woods page of my web site). Last I checked, he had 3 versions of Augusta to
download, but
maybe somebody designed an Augusta with the latest changes to it, just in time for
the upcoming tournament. Anyway, hope this helps, good luck, have fun, and
if you need anything else, feel free to email me.

Problem:
From Nikhil Bhulabhai (Nikhil@microware.co.zw)
hi josh

i unzipped these files
and placed in them on my c:\program files\ea sports\
data\ courses

and the game bombs
out and immediately goes to my desktop. all of your
courses work fine,
its seems that the larger sized courses dont want
to work. please could
you assist me.
complements on an excellent web site and for the shanin
extreme - tough
one to conquer
thanks alot

Response:
I just downloaded Centennial from the EA web site,
and got it to work as far as I could tell on my computer. I'm not exactly
sure why the game is bombing out on you, but things to check would be making sure
there are 49 files inside a directory called "Centennial" located inside your
Data/Courses directory of your Tiger Woods game directory. (Since I just
downloaded Centennial, and you have Centennial, this would be a good course to
test). If there aren't 49 files, or if the directory isn't exactly the name
of the .viv file of the course (in this case, "Centennial"), the game could easily
crash. If there are 49 files, and your directory is called "Centennial",
then the only thing I could suggest is either leaving a message on my message
board of my web site (JoshShainin.com), so that maybe someone visiting my web
site can answer your question, or maybe checking out the EA (or other) message
boards around for answers to your problem. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Problem:
From Dave Hurst (hursts@drivingschool-adi.freeserve.co.uk)
HI THERE JOSH
WHAT A GREAT SITE YOU HAVE...
COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I CAN DOWNLOAD TW99
COURSES = POPPY HILLS, BADLANDS, LAS VEGAS AND LAS COLINAS.
THANKS
DAVE HURST
Response:
Glad you like the web site! Those courses came
with the TW99 Collection CD Pack, and as far as I know, nobody has those courses
available over the internet. You might want to check with Notapro (there
is a link to him on my main Tiger Woods page, but
www.tigerrealm.com should also get you
there, last I checked), and if he can't get it to you, maybe they are still selling
that collection at EA's web site. I know I saw that collection at Electronics
Boutique not too long ago in the bargain CD section; if all else fails, and you
still really want those courses, you might want to try there, and other computer
software places in their bargain sections. All of those courses are awesome;
I play Poppy and Badlands frequently, and are still among my favorite courses
for the TW golf series. Hope this helps. If you need any more help
or have any more questions, please feel free to email me again. Good luck,
and talk to you later.
Josh
Old, but maybe still
useful information:
Follow below instructions to install
Shainin Golf Courses:
1. To download a Shainin Golf Course,
click on the link that says "Download Shainin <name of course> V<version>". A window
will pop up, asking you to either open it or save it. Click save it and hit the
OK button. A new window will appear. Choose to save the file to your desktop and
click OK. Ignore the page that sometimes appears saying "Action Cancelled"; everything
is working OK. Download time is normally 30 minutes, so be patient.
2. Once downloaded, find the file on
your desktop. Double-click it to open it. If you are using WinZip, click "I agree"
to get to the main screen. Once on the main screen, near the top is a button saying
"Extract"...click it. In the box asking you where you want to save your file, enter
the location where Tiger Woods is installed (by default, Tiger Woods 99 installs
to C:/Program Files/EA SPORTS/Tiger Woods 99 [WITH SPACES], Tiger Woods 2000 installs
to C:/Program Files/EA SPORTS/Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2000 [AGAIN, WITH SPACES], and
Tiger Woods 2001 installs to C:/Program Files/EA SPORTS/Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001
[ONCE AGAIN, WITH SPACES]), followed by /Data/Courses/. The whole thing looks something
like this:
C:/Program Files/EA SPORTS/Tiger Woods
99/Data/Courses/
Click Extract, and check to make sure
the course installed correctly by starting the game and looking for the name of
the course in the list of courses.
If you have any problems installing the
course, or any other problems with the Tiger Woods games, please email me so that
I can try to help you.
IMPORTANT PROBLEM NOTE: Some people,
when creating a course zip file, make it so that you have to also put the course
name when unzipping. If you encounter such a zip file, you will have to unzip
the files to the following example directory:
C:/Program Files/EA SPORTS/Tiger Woods
PGA Tour 2001/Data/Courses/<NAME OF COURSE>/
...assuming you have a standard computer
and are installing everything to default directories. Change drive letters
and directories where appropriate. Also, I believe that the <NAME OF COURSE>
has to match the .viv file contained in the zip file. If you can locate the
.viv file, make sure that <NAME OF COURSE> contains everything in front of the .viv.
For example, if you had to put <NAME OF COURSE> when installing Shainin Fairways
V2.1 (if you download the course from my web site, you shouldn't have to put <NAME
OF COURSE>, but you might have to put <NAME OF COURSE> if you download the course
from elsewhere), you would replace <NAME OF COURSE> with Shainin Fairways V2_1,
because the viv file associated with Shainin Fairways V2.1 is Shainin Fairways V2_1.viv.
This is much more confusing, which is why I try to zip my files such that you don't
have to put <NAME OF COURSE>. However, apparently, a lot of zip files require
<NAME OF COURSE>, so beware.
If you have had no success unzipping
your files as indicated earlier on this page, try this method of adding the course
name when unzipping. If you still can't get it to work, again, please feel
free to email me.
UPGRADE TO NEW VERSION:
If you are upgrading to a newer version
of the same course, do the above instructions to install the new version, then,
if you want to delete the old version of the course, you need to do the following.
Go to your Tiger Woods folder (double-click "My Computer", then double-click "C:"
if that is your hard drive, then go to and double-click the Tiger Woods folder that
the old course is installed to.
Defaults:
Tiger Woods 99- double-click Program
Files folder, then EA SPORTS folder, and finally Tiger Woods 99 folder.
Tiger Woods 2000- double-click
Program Files folder, then EA SPORTS folder, and finally Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2000
folder.
Tiger Woods 2001- double-click
Program Files folder, then EA SPORTS folder, and finally Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001
folder.
Now double-click the "Data" folder, then
double-click the "Courses" folder. Look for the name of the old version, for example,
if you want to get rid of Shainin Fairways V1.2, look for the folder with the name
Shainin_Fairways_V1_2 (spaces and decimals are replaced by underscores). Left-click
that folder, then right-click that folder, and choose "Delete". Click "Yes", and
everything should be OK now.
Again, if you are having any problems
deleting the old version, or with anything else related to Shainin Golf Courses,
feel free to email me.
